Logitech has announced a new headset designed specifically for console gamers. The new Logitech Wireless Headset F540 is wireless and provides both chat and game stereo game audio. The headset allows for 3 audio devices to be plugged into the base station and all the controls are right on the headset for your convenience.

The built in re-chargeable battery means that you won’t be tangled up in wires. Not to worry though, if you end up in a late night bender and the power runs out, you can plug in the headset and continue using the device while it re-charges.

Logitech says you’ll get 10 hours of game play off of one single charge. The new headset will set you back $149.99 and will be available in October 2010.

I’ve been using this headset for several months now and can say that I am very pleased with them. I play FPS type games and there is no noticeable delay in the audio when using it in USB mode on my system.

I think I have an average or slightly larger than average head size and it fits me fine. The fit is a tad loose, but that’s OK since it makes it very comfortable for met to wear for hours at a time.

I also like the way the microphone can rotate out of the way if you’re not using it. I’ve tried it on a few VOIP games and my friends say that they can hear me just fine. There is good stereo separation and in Left 4 Dead I can use the audio to get a good feeling for where zombies are behind the walls and just shoot them through the walls. There is no way to tell if the noise is above or below you, but you can definitely tell left and right locations based on sound.

This headset is much better than the Turtle Beach headset I had earlier which broke after about 10 months. Much more durable, more convenient, and less bulky as well.
