We love creating FreeNAS vids, especially when we get to use our Android in the process. This article and video shows more of what you can do with freeNAS.
Here is how you can stream your Music Library from FreeNAS to your Droid using the Android Market freebie: “DAAP” by “Miceli Bros”. It’s easy to setup, but I do recommend editing your FireFly WebGui from your NAS and adding Smart Playlists, I add mine by Genre.
Well organized playlists make’s Miceli’s DAAP even more effective. This was easily the best solution I could find trying to solve my “media from freeNas to android” problem. It is a little slow to get setup, but once you setup some playlists, you could feasibly use this as the party DJ. I would have paid for this app. Maybe if enough interest is shown, we could get Miceli to develop the same app for VIDEO STREAMING from FreeNAS to the Android :)
In this video, I also show you how to connect your Android to your home stereo using the Sony 2 way Bluetooth adapter ( HWS-BTA2W )
If you’re curious about Audio Streaming Protocol DAAP’s history, this is worth a quick read. Information about the DAAP application can be found at the Android Market ( search DAAP ) or on the developer’s site: Android DAAP Audio Stream
