The long awaited press conference from Sony finally arrived and gamers got what they had been waiting for.  The newest handheld from Sony, code named “Next Generation Portable” or NGP.  The NGP will launch this holiday and some of the details were revealed to the crowd in Tokyo.

The NGP rocks a 5″ OLED Touch Screen, dual analog sticks, six access controls, front and rear cameras, and a rear touch pad.  The graphics on the device rival the PS3 and the game list is impressive with titles such as Hot Shots Golf, Killzone, Hustle Kings, Little Big Planet, Little Deviants, Wipeout, Resistance, and Uncharted.  The NGP will use flash memory and can connect to the internet through WiFi or a 3G Network.

The NGP will be better connected to the Playstation Network using a “Live Area” where gamers can find information on games, publishers and check in on their PSN friends.  The Playstation Store will be at your fingertips on the device to bring you all the content.  Movies, digital comics, and video games can be purchased and saved to your flash memory just like your original PSP and all of your original PSP digital games will run on the NGP.  The Playstation Store is going to be making its way to Android users through the Playstation Suite and these games developed for the Android will also be playable on the NGP.

Cloud computing will be eventually making its way to the NGP.  Cloud computing will allow gamers to start their gaming experience on their PS3 and then continue that same game outside on their NGP.  This is a big hit with the Booya Gadget team as continuing our NCAA Dynasties on the road has always been high on the wish list.  This feature should be shown in more detail this summer at E3.
