PSN OPEN

The Playstation Network re-opened in North America in a phased roll-out last Saturday night.  By now all of the continent should be rockin’ firmware 3.61, which forced users to update their passwords.  As of this article these features have been restored:

  • Online Gameplay for PS3 and PSP
  • Netflix, Hulu Plus and MLB.TV
  • Qriocity Music
  • Playstation Home

Coming in the next few days is the re-launch of the Playstation Store and with that launch comes Sony’s Welcome Back Customer Appreciation Program.  Sony has promised to make the outage worth the users time and is offering FREE content and some of those details have been released.  Once the store opens its virtual doors users will have their choice of some FREE games.

For PS3 owners they will have the opportunity to download two games from the following list for FREE:

  1. Dead Nation
  2. inFamous
  3. LittleBigPlanet
  4. Super Stardust HD
  5. Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners they will have the oppurtunity to choose two games from this list to download for FREE:

  1. LittleBigPlanet
  2. ModNation Racers
  3. Pursuit Force
  4. Killzone Liberation

Sony is also including yet-to-be announced rentals from the video service, a 30 day trial of PSN Plus for non-subscribers, 60 days FREE for all current PSN PLus Subscribers, 30 days FREE for all Qriocity subscribers, and PS Home will have 100 FREE virtual items.

Personally, I am most excited about are the FREE games.  I am glad to see that Sony is offering a solid collection of games, instead of some Minis and a few PSone Classics.  As for my selections I will be forced to select the Killzone Liberation and Pursuit Force for my PSP, as I already own the other two titles.

For the PS3,  I already own LittleBigPlanet and I  have always wanted to play inFamous. That leaves me with only one more choice.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  What are you guys gonna select?  Do you think the offerings from Sony are enough to appease you for the outage?

Its great to back online playing games again andI am glad that this fiasco is almost completely behind us.  Hopefully, this will push Sony to have a better, more reliable network and maybe Sony could push out a few things from Playstation Blog Share.  The top 5 things that PS3 users are demanding are still left unfulfilled.  No better time than the present for Sony to start delivering.

I highly recommend INFAMOUS ! Unfortunately, I already had it like many of the games listed here. Even wipeout is playstation plus already.

I grabbed infamous 1 day, got hooked, and now I can’t wait for part 2.

I have 2/4 PSP already. Overall, i’m not pissed, and happy to get some freebies..

inFamous is getting picked, this is a nice freebie cause this game has always been on my radar.

I am in the same boat as I already own a few of the games. Freebies are nice, would have rather just got some PSN credit to spend, but this will do.

What if I have both the PSP and the PS3? Do I get four free games, or just 2 on my PSN account?
