These 2 methods have worked on all my Surface gadgets.

  1. Press and hold the “capacitive”  Windows button on the front of your Surface Screen(on the bezel) with your right hand.
  2. Continue holding the windows button and then a single press the Volume Down button with your left hand.

The screen will go slightly dim for a just a quick moment when you’ve done it right.

Surface Pro 3 Dock Owner Review. Excellent! Sun, 26 Oct 2014 23:16:57 +0000
surface pro 3 dock review rear ports

Rear View of the Surface Pro 3 Dock

The surface pro 3 dock is exactly what I needed.  Lightweight and sturdy, the dock is easy to use and enhances the abilities of your Surface Pro 3.  If you’re not a “dock person”, or have limited budget then I certainly hope you’d take a pass, but for me this is a great product that fits my needs perfectly.  I believe that if you’re a Surface Pro 3 owners and in need of a docking solution, you will be satisfied.

There are a few reasons why you’d want the dock.  I fall into category #2, but if the dock fits your needs, then yes, it’s worth it.
  1. You don’t travel daily with your Pro 3, but at home you simply prefer it docked.
  2. You travel daily with your SP3, and you’re tired of constantly plugging & unplugging power over and over.
  3. You need/want more ports for whatever reason.
  4. You have budget, and love gadgets.
surface pro 3 dock with keyboard

surface pro 3 dock, ready for connection but not locked in yet

It’s very easy to actually dock your Surface Pro 3.  You “lightly pull apart” (left and right )  on the dock.  Then you slide in your Pro 3 ( with or without the type pad keyboard ).   There is a groove on the bottom that makes it easy to slide the pro 3 into position.  Once placed, you just “PUSH” the Left and Right Sides to lock into place.. Voila.

  • Fixed Docking Angle..
    • Although the dock angle doesn’t adjust, I don’t see it as an issue.
    • If the engineers could keep the sturdy feel and allow adjustment of the docking angle that would be even better. But fixed angle is OK.
  • Cost ( estimated: $160-$200 **at the time of this article..)
    • I think the price is “fair” for early adopters.
    • Like any other gadgets, time reduces price, as does aggressive deal searching.
  • Dock Power Cable Length
    • I prefer a longer power cable length. I also prefer how the SP3’s original power brick has a USB port on it unlike the dock’s power cable.  However having the port on the brick is not necessary with all the additional USB ports on the dock itself.
  • PHYSICAL: The pro 3 dock is lightweight, sturdy, and easy to “operate”.  By operating, I mean, locking the pro 3 in place is simple, easy, and fast.
  • As mentioned above, it’s super simple to dock and lock the surface pro 3.
  • The existing  Mini DisplayPort and USB 3.0 port on your device are available for use even when docked ( very smart )
  • ***  Gotcha–> Don’t forget you have to install windows update for the dock to function as expected.  ***

  • 3 USB 3.0 ports AND 2 USB 2.0 ports..(Plenty of ports, great to have )
  • Gigabit Ethernet port… (nice to have)
  • 3.5mm audio input/output connection.. (nice to have)
  • Mini DisplayPort.. (Nice)
  • Security lock slot..  (I never use this)
  • Once docked, all ports are still available, except for power of course :)

How To setup 3D, fix Split Screen Comcast Xfinity On-Demand Sun, 16 Jun 2013 02:20:05 +0000 Comcast Split Screen 3D LG XFinity

How to Fix 3D Split Screen

If you have a 3D enabled television, I hope you’ve tried out the FREE 3d library from Comcast XFinity.  It’s a humble library, but with their set-top box and the correct HD level XFinity TV package you can definitely test the 3D capabilities of your TV.  I am using an LG47G2 (with Google TV) which is not the best quality LG 3D TV, but it certainly works and it works with 3D on Comcast and HBO’s 3D offerings if you subscribe.  If you are an HBO subscriber, make sure you look at the NICE library included with your package in the XFinity on Demand 3D page.

In addition while doing my testing, I learned a secret on how to unlock 2 of their FREE 3D channels.  Here’s the catch:  You have to call or chat COMCAST (1-800-COMCAST) to add the service.  It is NOT enabled on accounts by default, so it is absolutely worth calling, and if it is available in your area, you’ll get 2 more FREE 3D Channels from XFinity.  In the greater-Seattle area, these are channels 897, 898 respectively.  Simply have them check if 3D is avaialable in your area, and ask them to turn it on, it’s 100% free.

For what it’s worth, ESPN 3D doesn’t look that great on my TV.  I don’t think my LG47G2 does that great with 3D sports, but the XFinity 3D and On-Demand channel quality is pretty solid.

If you started testing 3D shows/movies on XFinity TV, do not be alarmed if the video appears as split screen.. If you see this it actually means your set-top box is compatible.  With many 3D TVs they will not auto-switch to 3D when viewing the Comcast 3D Signal.   So they screen will appear split either horizontally or vertically.  When viewing 3D discs on my PS3, the TV is more intelligent and knows to switch automatically.  But with the set-top box you need to switch 3D modes manually on your 3D Enabled TV.

STEP 1:  Navigate to the 3D channels, or the 3D tab in XFinity on Demand.  Select your 3d Movie/Show/Video and start watching it.

STEP 2:  DETERMINE 3D Image type, then Press 3d Button on your Remote.

Once you see the 3D image that is either Horizontally or Vertically stacked, you will need to press the 3D BUTTON ON YOUR TV OR REMOTE..  You will simply want to match the 3d setting to the display.  Once you do this, your TV will notify you that it is now in 3D mode and you have now resolved how to view 3D using Comcast or XFinity on Demand or the two Free 3D Channels.

How to factory reset Kindle Paperwhite or Kindle Touch for sale Tue, 27 Nov 2012 00:05:41 +0000 How to factory reset Kindle Touch for Sale

Here are my own pics as I prep my Kindle Touch for sale on Craigslist. Read on to see how to factory reset it for a good transfer to the new owner.

Need to know how to safely sell, give away, or donate your Amazon Kindle?  If you only want to factory reset, but keep your Touch or Paperwhite, then skip to step 2.  But if you’re looking to transfer ownership in some way then you MUST perform steps 1 and 2.

** Read my Kindle Paperwhite Review Here **

View Kindle Most Popular Books on Amazon here.

Step 1 and Most importantly:  DE-REGISTER YOUR DEVICE

To transfer ownership, you have to de-register from Amazon.  If you don’t, then the new owner won’t be able to use the Kindle.

From the Home Screen select  MENU / SETTINGS / REGISTRATION
This will give you the option to DeRegister your Kindle right there.

You can also sign-in and de-register your Kindle (here) on the Amazon website, it will be listed under Manage Devices / Manage my Kindle

Step 1 How to deregister kindle Booya Gadget

Step 1 De Register your Kindle first.

Step 2: Factory Reset the device

Confirm the double prompt message:  “This action will remove all downloaded or transferred content from your Kindle. You will still be able to download archived items. Do you want to reset your Kindle ?

kindle touch factory reset how to booya gadget

Reset your Kindle, confirm the prompt and your device will reset shortly.

Some buyers on craigslist were nervous because they even asked me “can I register it to my account?”.  Apparently there are scammers and thieves with stolen Kindles and were blocked by Amazon.  So when I sold mine recently here on Oahu,  I just brought my phone, shared my wifi and let the new owner register it before he left, which eased all fear.  I recommend doing that if you have the setup.

K9 Unit Black Ops 2 COD Scorestreak Pics and Gameplay Tue, 20 Nov 2012 06:00:05 +0000 K9 Unit Black Ops 2 COD Scorestreak gameplay

The K9 Unit Scorestreak is very cool and effective, but it’s expensive at 1,700 points required. I tend to get to my level two scorestreak max. But I caught these attack dogs killing me while recording for future videos.

I’m not a Black Ops 2 all star, so I don’t get huge Scorestreaks, however, I played against an opponent tonight that unleashed the vicious Kevlar Protected K9 Unit German Shepherds on me.  I lost the battle..

K9 Unit Black Ops 2 COD Scorestreak gameplay Booya Gadget

YES, the K9 Unit has a kevlar vest, very cool. But other scorestreaks are just as effective. If I got Big Scorestreaks a lot I would turn this on. But I’ll stick with UAV, Anti UAV and Sentry. Booya !

The good news is that I happened to be recording it as I’m working on a few strategy videos, so I thought I’d share the gameplay of the dogs killing me and a couple screen captures.   The COD Black Ops 2 K9 Unit is pretty cool, but it’s so expensive that it’s not a Tier 3 scorestreak that I tend to use.  I can score a lot of points, but it’s hard for me to get all the way up to 1,700 points on a scorestreak.

Although I’m an animal lover, and have a dog myself, I was happy to take out 1 of these K9 attackers with my Riot Shield !  Booya !

Here is the Gameplay Video if you want to see what the K9 Units are all about if you have enough skill to rack up 1,700 scorestreak enough.  And remember, like any other scorestreak, hit RIGHT on the D-PAD to activate the DOGS.    WOOF WOOF ARRFFFFFF.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and Case Review. Excellent, but not for everyone. Sat, 10 Nov 2012 00:01:44 +0000 Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Review

So nice to read outdoor, indoor, light or dark !

For the right person, a Kinde Paperwhite is an excellent e-reader, fully Booya Certified.  Its an affordable, simple and highly effective device.  With plenty of gadgets at my fingertips I didn’t “need” another book reading device but I love having what I call a “Battleaxe Gadget” next to my bed, reliable and miraculously always has some juice left.

I definitely like the Paperwhite better than the previous version of my Kindle Touch because of its many new features.  This thing truly is just like reading a book and it is totally usable in direct sunlight and of course at night.  This is arguably the best e-ink / e-reading experience on the market today, reading books on this bad-boy is truly a pleasure.

Kindle Paperwhite Dark Room Backlight Lighting Booya Gadget

Here I am in a dark room to show you the lighting on a fairly high setting. To read in bed, I use a far lower setting and it is easy on my eyes. Love it.

There are 4 obvious best features of the Kindle Paperwhite:  affordability, built-in lighting, crazy-long battery life and the great screen resolution.  This thing looks like a book, you can store thousands of books in it, it’s small, portable and easy.   Most customer and owner feedback that you may read during your shopping experience confirm this.  If you feel you need more tablet-like features then grab a Kindle Fire or Kindle HD or all the way up to Android and iPad tablets (budget permitting).  If you want simplicity and just a great book reading experience then save a few bucks by not buying a tablet and grab the Paperwhite.

Kindle Paperwhite Battery Life Power Management Booya Gadget Review

Paperwhite Battery life is no joke.

The perfect owner of the Paperwhite is obviously a passionate book reader, and everybody knows one or is one themselves.  But the reason  I don’t think this great gadget is for everyone is because the Kindle App software is so good and widely available.  You can get the Kindle book reading app on an iPad, a droid tablet, and any smart phone.  The software is even available on a PC or Mac.  If you already have another tablet I wouldn’t feel compelled to purchase a Paperwhite as well.

Travelers are also an excellent gift recipient for a Kindle.  Airline travel is tricky now-a-days and it’s nice not to lug around heavy books.  But if you travel with your family, maybe your kids steal the iPad for gaming and you could still use your own Paperwhite and read the entire flight on the way there AND back on the same battery charge!

As I mentioned in my opening paragraph, I certainly don’t “need” my Kindle but I love owning mine.

You can buy the Amazon Brand Paperwhite Leather case for $39.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Leather Cover, Persimmon (does not fit Kindle or Kindle Touch)

I really like this case, it’s a perfect fit, protects your Paperwhite and also provides a nice auto-off feature when the magnetic clasp is closed.   It’s super-easy to install and comes in a variety of colors depending on your taste.

The only thing that comes for free is the USB Cable ( wall adapter not included ).  So to charge your Kindle Paperwhite, you’ll need to have your own wall adapter, or simply plug it into a computer which is what I do.

Sega Total War Battles : Dust Before the Wind SPOILER-Solution Sat, 14 Jul 2012 01:54:42 +0000 Dust Before the Wind Collect 950 Wood in 8 Minutes Total War

Deploy the Lumber Yards and protect them.

Here you go, the **SPOILER** for Sega Total War Battle’s “Dust Before The Wind” level for the iPad and iPhone.  This level is pretty far into the game, and at this point I knew the key was placement of the provided lumber yards. The goal here is to collect 950 wood in 8 minutes.  It’s not too hard once you know how and where to place the Lumber Yards.  After that you simply need to protect them.  Great strategy game for the iPad and iPhone.

STEP 1 QUICKLY layout the required buildings and Place the 5 Provided Lumber Yards as shown in the picture.

Total War Battles Dust Before the Wind Lumber Yard Placement

Place the 5 Lumber Yards in the same pattern as shown here. You don’t need to build anything else other than what is provided.

Step 2:  Now simply defend with (non wood) costing infantry.  I use Matchlock Riflemen and basic Ronin Swordsmen.  Place the riflemen 1 Hex Behind the swordsmen so they can still fire. (Devastating!) Replenish, Slay Them All, and Sustain are good General’s orders to queue up.

Dust Before The Wind SPOILER How To

Once you place the lumber yards (QUICKLY) immediately start creating (non-wood) costing soldiers and start queuing Generals Orders.  With Riflemen right behind them, any swordsmen will mow down enemies.

Step 3:  Make sure to collect your wood and smile as you easily pass this level and move on while collecting another 400 Experience Points to spend on your clan’s efficiency!  BOOYA !

Dust Before The Wind Can you Beat my Score ?

Use my score as a target goal for yourself as usual ! Good Luck out there.

iPad iPhone Plague Inc How to win the Fungus Level Fri, 13 Jul 2012 17:31:16 +0000 Plague Inc How to beat Fungus Level iPad iPhone

With a few tips and strategy you can beat the Fungus Level Now.

Developed by Ndemic CreationsPlague Inc is .99 cents and very unique and fun game for the iPad.  I’m playing it on the iPad3 and sometimes on my iPhone 4.  I was able to eventually start cruising through all the plagues but I sure got stuck on the FUNGUS Level for way too long!   Depending on what you like, this game is definitely worth a dollar and works on BOTH iPad and iPhone.  It can get a little redundant, but the way to overcome that is to apply the endless amount of different strategies to take out the world.

Your goal is to wipeout civilization by infecting a single country with one of six different plagues:  Bacteria, Virus, Fungus, Parasite, Prion, Nano-Virus, and finally the Bio-Weapon.  Make the plague spread and try to slow down the scientists out to stop your gaming fun.

How to take out the World with Fungus:

The basic strategy is this: infect the world without them knowing it.  Have patience and double the game speed.  Continue to collect your DNA points and transmissions WILL occur (but slowly).  Your disgusting Fungus will continue unstopped as long as humans don’t know they have the infection.  So immediately de-evolve all auto symptoms!  Once everyone is infected, CRANK UP the symptoms.  Total Organ Failure is a solid choice of symptoms but you can choose whatever as long as you make it extreme.  You’ll want to have about 60-70 DNA Points once the entire world is infected.

Plague Inc Fungus No Healthy People Left ipad iphone

Infect the world Symptom Free, Everyone is infected but ZERO DEATHS.  THEN CRANK UP THE SYMPTOMS with your 60-77 DNA Points. VOILA

For FUNGUS TRANSMISSION:I just cranked 2-3 levels of Air and Water.  Way Later on, you’ll start getting some bonus DNA Points, you can use them on transmission, symptoms, or abilities.

Plague Inc Fungus Transmissions iPad iPhone How To Spoiler Tips

Start off with Air and Wind Transmissions level 2-3

For FUNGUS SYMPTOMS:  IMMEDIATELY De-Evolve any automatic mutations that occur.

Plague Inc Fungus iPad iPhone Initial Symptoms

Until the entire world is infected De-Evolve ALL auto mutations immediately!

Plague Inc Fungus iPad iPhone Crank Up Symptoms

Now Crank Up the Symptoms big time. The humans won’t know what hit ‘em! Pick your own cause of death. I chose organ failure.

For FUNGUS ABILITIES:  I pretty much cranked up drug resistance abilities to slow down scientists.   But they won’t have time to cure it anyways :) MUUUAHAHAHA you evil bastard!!

Plague Inc Fungus Abilities iPad iPhone How to Solve Tips

Slow down the pesky scientists trying to cure the plague and stop you from advancing !

FIFA 12 Defensive Player Bible Part 4: 18 Positioning Tips and Strategy Sun, 17 Jun 2012 02:42:39 +0000

Welcome to the FIFA Defensive Player Bible Part 4 of 5!  The focus of part 4 is Defensive Positioning.. Where to be, Where to Go, and When to be there.  This guide is mainly for those that play Club and Pro Ranked Match where you control just 1 CB or CDM player(basically pickup Soccer-Futbol).  Defense is very challenging, and while I wrote this bible I have bad games too.  The key is discipline, consistency, and having pride in stopping not scoring goals.

  1. When Urgent, Run Straight.  Sometimes, you really need to get somewhere fast, so run vertically and horizontally.  Literally UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT.  After all, this is what the offensive players are doing and they’re VP’s are likely setup for high sprint speed.
  2. Caution in the Corner.  When chasing an opponent with the ball to the corner.  This can leave the middle of the 18 wide open for an easy header or volley.  Watch your teammates actions, because sometimes two and three defenders are chasing a dribbler to the corner but noone is marking in the middle.
  3. Lay Off X “GIVE ME THE BALL” button !!  ARGH..  As a defender you stop goals and get the ball to your offense.   Don’t smash on X, rarely call for ball.  You are in the mega-danger zone and you rarely need to call the ball.  If playing Club, your midfielders will likely be smashing X anyways :)   On occasion, it is acceptable to call for the ball when in a safe passing lane.  In particular, if I do call for it as a defender, I am likely setting up a One-Touch Give-and-Go to my midfielder.
  4. Harass, Run-Into and Collide with your opponents whenever possible. A well timed “intentional collision” with a 5’7″ tiny striker can be invaluable.  I seek out my opponents constantly (when it is safe)…  This is a simple trick/secret and it works.  As you should know as a Fifa lover, just a quarter second delay can ruin a scoring opportunity.  Try it yourself the next game you play if it’s not in your current strategy arsenal.

booya FIFA Bible Defensive Positioning COLLIDE with Players tips strategy

I killed this threat by intentionally colliding with their Striker. Run into their players, disrupt their timing. A sneaky FIFA 12/13 defensive tip.  Booya !

  5. Stay Out of their way.  Rarely / Never should you find yourself colliding with your own offensive players.  So if you notice that you’ve been colliding with your own midfielder, then you’re playing too far up, or he/she is playing too far back.  But regardless, stay out of the offense’s way, let them do their thing.  You stop goals and get them the ball.  In FIFA 12/13 there is no shortage of dedicated offensive players, take pride in stopping threats.
  6. Discipline.  Stay in position, Directly Mark a player, or anticipate passing lanes.  This is so important, so very very important.  Resist the Urge to screw off.  Some games, you won’t get much action, but your Club will crush.  You can create Clean-Sheet shutouts and your team will love you and miss your Defense when you’re not online.  Stay disciplined, learn to love playing Defense.  Stopping a goal with great Defense feels just as good as a goal to me..
  7. Use The MiniMap for location help.  The camera default is to follow the ball.  ( hit select switches to focus on you but that’s tough ).   Sometimes you may lose track of where you are.  I use the minimap a lot just to get a feel for where I am on the pitch. You should too.
  8. Control Midfield with Headers, and feed your offense all day long.  In part 1 of the Fifa Defensive Players Bible,  I recommend that you to select a taller player when on defense.  Crafting Headers back to your offense on clearances and Goal Kicks can demoralize your opponent’s offense.  Some games as a CB or CDM, you will single handedly control midfield with your head especially if you elect to use a slightly taller player.  Your offense will appreciate the effort, and your opponents will become frustrated.
  9.  An important part of your strategy on defense should be to Always Anticipate Failure.    You don’t want to get caught “thinking he would make the play” only to end up watching a goal in front of your eyes.   Constantly be looking for your team to make errors.  Bad passes, ill-timed jukes, the often dangerous goal kick header that skips over your teammates head for a breakaway.  When you constantly anticipate failure as a Defender, you will soon be able to tell when your teammate is about to turn the ball over !  This is a critical strategy to your success.  Stop Goals and get the Ball to your Offense.

FIFA Bible Defensive tips strategy Positioning Anticipate Failure booya gadget

Such a very dangerous play. This resulted in NO GOAL! I was anticipating failure and I was right. A common play. As a defender, always anticipate failure.  Booya !

  10. Join the attack?  Very rarely should a CB join an attack.  CDM can join much more often, but CDM should still be primarily a defensive player.  The more you join the attack, the higher the risk of a strong counter against your club.  It’s OK for you to join the attack as a Defender when your Team Captain calls for it,  and sometimes at the 45 minute mark(depending on the score).   YES at the 90 Minute mark when you’re down at least 1 goal then join the biggest push.   If you do join the attack be available and look for volleys and put-backs, but try to stay out of your Offense’s way still ( See #4 )  You should be tall, so sneak forward for a last minute F.U. header threat.
  11. Watch for hand raisers.. Some clubs/players you face love to smash X on call for the ball all day long.  Remember they’re telling you they want the ball and are aggressively trying to get a pass.  Stay close to the “Hand Raisers” calling for it, get some interceptions, and create a quick counter attack for your club.
  12. Know the Impact of Weather.   Mainly, pay attention to how the ball skips and bounces when playing in sunshine, rain, and snow.
  13. When your team is winning, you should look to play even more Defense.  Increase your discipline, and RESIST THE URGE to join the attack unless it’s a mega blowout by 4+ goals then have fun.  But in general, I recommend you be cutthroat.  If you’re up 3-0 at halftime, then get the clean sheet and destroy your opponent.
  14. Get Dirty: Grab, Pull and Cheat with the Circle button.. When you’re chasing a player, press circle to grab the jerk and slow him down.  I use it all the time, however, you will be called for a Penalty if you over do it.  A nice benefit, is when used “appropriately”, you can actually steal the ball from the Jive-Turkey!   I love circle, and I use it more than slide tackling.  However, sometimes the foul is worth it because you can stop a goal.  It reminds me of basketball, when NBA guys will grab a player so he can’t go on a breakaway solo dunk.  Make Sense ?  You must learn to use Circle on Defense.
  15. Momentum Matters.  Momentum can save your butt and also cost you a goal… Momentum can make you a great or weak player.  What you want to avoid is the “sudden stop and change direction” situation.  This can lead to you giving up a goal.  Try to keep your motion alive smoothly.   Avoid sudden stops, because when you have to STOP, and CHANGE DIRECTION you may be well out of the play and some 95 speed striker is long gone.  One method to keep your momentum is to run in a tiny circle when you need to change pace, direction, or delay your player for a moment without giving up your momentum.  Momentum matters.
  16. Energy Conservation.   Life as a Defender is not always sprinting.  I do a ton of shuffling ( hold L2 ) and Jogging.  You’ll be surprised at how much ground you can cover simply jogging in a low-threat situation.  If you sprint and sprint and sprint and only sprint, you will get injured and it will hurt your team or cost you a goal.
  17. Back Up Your Boys.. If someone gambles, Read it, and Fill their spot for a while.
  18. Use Dekes and Fakes vs Human Opponents(Club).   Against Human Players you can utilize fakes on Defense.  When you suspect he is going to Pass the ball for an assist, Fake like you’re going commit to the dribbler, but drop back from the ball and steal the pass.  This doesn’t really work vs the CPU, but against Human players, try it a few times.  You will often get the last laugh.

FIFA 12 Defensive Player Bible Part 3: 13 Passing Tips and Strategy Sun, 17 Jun 2012 02:42:09 +0000 Welcome to the FIFA Defensive Player Bible Part 3 of 5!  The focus of part 3 is Defensive Passing and this is critical to your success.  Becoming a great defensive passer will help your match ratings, MOTM, and help your team score more goals.
Passing for both offensive and defensive players is about timing, angles, momentum and anticipation.  You must learn to get some loft on your passes and to learn when to play it safe.  It takes practice along with the 13 FIFA Defensive passing tips below.  You will be loved by your team if you can both stop goals and feed counter attacks.  A solid defensive passer is a deadly weapon to have on your Club, so take pride in it and constantly be looking to improve in this area.  CDM players can have even more impact and get more assists as you will be in a more forward position than your CB.  CDM players should consider mastering the thru and lob pass for potential assist opportunities.  Understanding how to delay for just a second or two can also help.  A Short delay dribble can help your out-of-position strikers get back onsides, or in a position to receive a safer lob, thru, or standard pass for an attack on goal.
Another Easy and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED tip:  Customize FIFA with your OWN music library.  I love this, and it’s easy!
FIFA Defensive Bible Cross Pass Get Some Loft Fifa Defensive Passing

This pass would be intercepted if it were not lofted. Great Pass !  A swerve pass(trait) would also work but is often more risky than simply lofting the pass.

  1. Never use Square(Slide Tackle/Clear) while you’re inside the 18 !!!  Here’s the bad news.  If you slide tackle in the 18 it can result in a RED CARD, AND A GOAL.  So you lose the lead and the team loses a player.  I’ve seen many many many Rookies try this stupid stunt and it is a massive FIFA FAIL.  Sure, it’s happened to me before but just do not do it.  It’s simply not worth it.  Just hit standard pass or shot and you will head or clear the ball just fine.
  2. Get rid of the frigging ball on Defense.  DON’T GET FANCY!  Your midfielders and strikers are paid to be fancy get them the ball where a turnover won’t hurt as badly.  When playing defense, I never juke when on defense.
  3. GO WITH THE FLOW.  Use your current momentum when deciding where to pass.  Turning around to sneak a pass off is extremely dangerous.  It is safest to pass in the general direction you are running.

FIFA Bible Defensive Tips CB CDM Passing DO NOT TURN AROUND

Use the angles here. In this play do NOT TURN AROUND to pass. If that Striker gets the ball it’s a wide open shot for him.  Just feed it to the RM Softly who is anxiously awaiting your pass.  In this play, you should read that there is basically 1 safe pass only.  This is a very nice counter attack opportunity.

  4. Use The Keeper for relief.  I just don’ t see enough players using the GK.  Your team won’t get mad at you when you play “Safe” defense.  But if you  consistently try to get tricky and give up a goal, you may get kicked off the club.
  5. Clear the ball. when in doubt, get safe.  You can’t always make a killer pass to midfielders and strikers.  Kicking it out of bounds will allow your team to reset from a dangerous threat.

FIFA Defensive Tips Bible Passing CLEAR THIS BALL

This is a VERY dangerous situation. You MUST CLEAR THIS BALL. Kick this sucker out of bounds immediately. Look at the direction he’s facing. If he turns around to try and pass it is a goal. Kick it out of bounds NOW!

  6. Use the one-touch pass if under pressure.  (Press pass before you receive the ball).  Sometimes even a single dribble can result in a turnover in a bad place and therefore, a goal.  I also use this to create my own give-and-go pass scenario.  Call for the ball from a CPU teammate, and give it right back.  This can give your midfielders just enough time to get open and call for the ball themselves.  A nice quick/safe give and go can also be used to increase your passing statistics and MOTM potential.
  7. Switching the field use the cross/ clear pass is a riskier move but high reward.  Defensive field switching is also a play I don’t see enough.  Human strikers/midfielders tend to swarm sometimes, flip the field and watch your offense get deep into enemy territory.  When switching the field most often you will want to use Square / Cross / Clear button and NOT the standard pass.  If a cross field pass is intercepted that is a sure-fire goal.  The Swerve Pass Trait can also be used to switch the field and avoid interception.
  8. SOFT PASSES TO YOUR OFFENSE WHENEVER POSSIBLE. Your forwards/midfielders love passes they can handle! It is a totally veteran move.   A nice-soft pass allows your offense to create space and make initial moves.  Give them a pass at 100 mph and you limit their ability.
  9. Chill Out, Don’t Panic.  Remember, passing in FIFA is about momentum, angles and anticipation.  Sometimes it’s fine to take a few dribbles, or to clear the ball.  But if you freak out, something bad will happen.
  10. Passing Angles are critical in FIFA.  In Club Play, you will begin to find some favorite midfielders that know how to come back to you and help your passing angles.  If they don’t give the ball to the CPU,GK, or clear the ball out of bounds.  Good midfielders will help you and you shouldn’t have to ask twice.
  11. Hit square to get some lift on passes.  This will greatly reduce your intercepted passes from the defensive half of the field.  For deeper passes, I strongly recommend you start using clear to get some loft and avoid over-aggressive opponents.  Burn their ass and let your offense take over.  Smile after you make a killer clear pass.
  12. You can create your own fast break / counter attack with a simple, accurate outlet pass. I call it, “the pass, before the pass, before the pass that scored the goal” and it matters.  When you become a great defensive passer you can literally start breaks all by yourself.  Intercept a ball then make a great thru pass or soft pass to your midfielders or strikers.  The Thru-Ball(triangle)/ Lob Too can be a totally devastating pass from defense especially for CDM players. Watch them take it up and score all from YOUR study of Booya’s bible !  A defensive generated thru / lob pass is best used during club with offensive players expecting the pass. (Anticipation)  This is harder to due in a Pro Ranked Match with strangers.
  13. Improve passing by using the Acrobatic Clearance, Swerve Pass, and Fancy Flicks Traits as indicated in the Bible Part 1.

FIFA 12 Defensive Bible Passing Acrobatic Clearance in Action Defense

This is Acrobatic Clearance in Action. Clear Out of bounds or past midfield. The other option here is to use the Goal Keeper. This is a VERY Dangerous situation. The defender successfully cleared the ball.

FIFA 12 Defensive Player Bible Part 1/5: Traits, Height, and Weight Sat, 16 Jun 2012 12:55:52 +0000 Need some help playing defensive positions in FIFA 12 ?   Welcome to the FIFA Defensive Player Bible Part 1 of 5!  The focus of part 1 is player setup, size, and trait selections.  Read and study this bible, ask me some questions and you WILL become a better defensive CB or CDM.  That’s a Booya Guarantee, this guide works, I know WTF I am talking about, but I’m also very open to intelligent chatter, discussion and strategy debate from fellow defenders..

I love playing online with my Club(FROS) or practicing my skill in Pro Ranked Match.  REMEMBER!  The focus of this FIFA defensive bible is for Club and PRM players.  The number of ACTIVE players on your club also matters, so an assumption I’m making here is that you’re rolling with 4-11 players actively in club.  Based on my experience, it’s normally not a great idea to play 2 player club with 1 defender and 1 striker for example.  When you become a NASTY defender you can single-handedly stop weak and predictable offensive teams.
Another Easy and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED tip:  Customize FIFA with your OWN music library.  I love this, and it’s easy.
94 FIFA 12 Defensive Player Bible Part 1 Setup Traits and Physical Size

Boost your VP RIGHT NOW.   I’m a 94 CB .  AS A CB USE STOPPER

Early on in your Virtual Pro career, you may be tempted to edit your defensive player to 5 foot 7 inches for speed.  I do NOT recommend that.  When you play defense correctly, you won’t need to be 92 speed, your guy will get tossed around and injured as a lightweight, so make him big and tough, make him PUNK the offensive players and control headers!  If you want a high VP rating you will have to be over 6 feet tall.  As a defender, the higher your VP rating and the better skill you have, the taller you can be.  However, CB’s can be bigger than CDM, because as a CDM in certain situations you will need more speed than a pure CB for the occasional fast break.  Again, match this to your own club’s style.  If your club does not need your offensive help as a CDM, then go tall.  If your club offense is weak, then play shorter so you can have more speed and fill in on fast breaks.

DEFENDER WEIGHT:  Being heavy is nice, you can punk offensive players just by touching them and rarely will you fall down when bumped.  Very rarely do I ever see a player over 200 pounds.  You can test this out yourself, but heavy weight decreases most skills except strength.  I recommend playing in the 170 pound weight range for defensive players.  Tweak as necessary but do NOT dip down to the 150’s.

CB Height:  The ideal size for a high VP RCB/LCB is 6’0 Foot even up to 6’3″ .  80% of the time, your opponents Strikers will be between 5’7″ and 5’9″ and 150 pounds.  They are speedster strikers. They’re fast and dangerous but Super-Weak!  Have you noticed on corner-kicks when the announcer says:  “They’re bringing the BIG defenders up for the cross”.  THAT’S YOU !!  And as a CB, corner kicks are your rare chance to score via header, so be a big gnarly-ugly-rough n tough-bastard.  Just make sure to get your arse back on Defense ASAP on failed corners or back out before the kick is off during a close game.

CDM Height:  For CDM, I play between 5’10” and 6’2″ depending on your club and personal playing style.  When playing as a taller CDM, I focus on controlling midfield headers.  As a shorter CDM, my goal is to use my speed to read and intercept passes just inside midfield.  When you head-back or steal 5-10 passes during a single game to your offense you will have a major impact on the pitch and increase your chances of Man of The Match (MOTM).  Stealing and heading balls from inside the midfield is devastating to the competition and will make you a clubhouse favorite..  My standard CDM height is 6’1″ and somewhere in the 170 pound range.

The most difficult Defensive achievement is to get 1,500 tackles.  Holy Cow… Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten that yet, but constantly work towards it.

As a CDM, select BALL WINNER, as a CB, use STOPPER.

FIFA 12 Defensive Player Bible Part 1/5: Traits, Height, and Weight

I have yet to see a higher 88 CDM than me.  AS CDM USE BALL WINNER

  1. Driven Pass: This allows you to make strong and long clearance passes when available.
  2. Power Header:  Get some distance on your clearing headers on opponent’s corner kicks, and crosses.  Also, this will give you some POP on your own headers when you move up for your own team’s corner kicks.(Far post Hint-Hint)
  3. Acrobatic Clearance: Acro Clearances make for a super-sexy clearance using the one-time touch, especially when running backwards towards your own goal.  Quick clear a threat AND setup your offense for a great counter attack.  Advanced move, but well worth having in your arsenal.
  4. Swerve Pass:  This pass is best for dancing on the sideline with your pass or when you switch the field.  It is both sexy and very effective.
  5. 1 Trait Of your own Choosing Depending on CDM/CB or your play style:
    1. Second Wind:  Good for any Defender. Get a late game boost to your energy.  If you conserve energy well, you shouldn’t need it, but it’s nice to have.
    2. Fancy Flicks:  This allows CB/CDM to get off nice sliding and one-touch passes when confronted by the opposition.  This is also the best way to make “Back Heel” passes. ( also an achievement )
    3. Fancy Passes: This allows CB/CDM to get off nice AERIAL passes when confronted by the opposition.
    4. Diving header:  Best for CDM players who sometimes run offensively on counter attacks !  Extremely sexy goals scored this way from crosses and corners !

FIFA 12 Defensive Player Bible Part 2/5: Scoring, Accomplishments, MOTM, General Defensive Tips Sat, 16 Jun 2012 12:52:01 +0000

Welcome to the FIFA Defensive Player Bible Part 2 of 5!  The focus of part 2 is Scoring, Accomplishments,  Man of the Match, and General Defensive Tips.  Read and study this bible, ask me some questions and you WILL become a better defensive CB or CDM.  This guide is mainly for those that play Club and Pro Ranked Match where you control just 1 CB or CDM player(basically pickup Soccer-Futbol).  Defense is very challenging, and while I wrote this bible I have bad games too.

Another Easy and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED tip:  Customize FIFA with your OWN music library.  I love this, and it’s easy.

  1. Join an active Club team and use the team’s txt chat  rooms.  Club play is the pinnacle of FIFA, that is where the best players are.  Consider it MLB vs the Minors.  If you think you’re hot shiz because you won the single-player season mode then great.  But single player is nothing like Club Play.  Build skills and VP as a single player but if you want some REAL FIFA, then play Club ! Zero debate here.
  2. EDIT your player for the position you are playing.  Nothing I hate worse than seeing a striker profile playing CB.  They MUST be changed before you play.
  3. Relax hands on the controller..  Sometimes I feel myself about to crush my controller into a diamond.  Just relax, you will play better and make softer passes.  Don’t play tense.  When you learn to play defense and identify scoring threats the game will come easier to you, and your back won’t hurt from tension after games.
  4. While learning, just use the basics of the bible and Don’t HURT the team… less guys will hate you.
  5. When in doubt, kick the friggin ball out of bounds or back to the Keeper.  It’s not always sexy, but NOT giving up goals is your focus, remember ?
  6. Practice, Practice and then Practice more on Pro Ranked Match!   Club vs PRM Big Difference Most of the time, but PRM is wonderful practice FOR DEFENDERS!   A good club will make you a snob because PRM is ball-hog-central.  You can do your own thing as a defender in PRM, I guarantee you will have opportunities to build your defensive skills every game.  This is how I learned how to defend humans before I became serious with club play.  When you play a ton of PRM, you will also start to recognize other players, this is helpful during club play when you start to recognize dangerous opponents because you’ve played against(or with) them so much in Pro Ranked Matches.
  7. Set the tone for your team.  Follow the Defensive Players Bible, play your position and execute immediately.  This will boost your team’s faith in you so they will play their position too.
  8. NEVER QUIT.  If you’re down 3-0 early don’t stop trying, stop the offense!  Don’t give up and start playing offense in the middle of the game.  Giving up ruins the game for everybody, I hate that, so don’t do it.
  9. Respect, but ignore the offsides trap if your captain calls it.  It is difficult for humans to follow, but it does work for a 100% computer controlled defense.  I am NOT a fan of  the offsides trap.
  10. Setup your Virtual Pro’s height, weight and traits per the bible part 1.  No Debate.
FIFA 12 Defensive Player Bible Accomplishments

Max out your VP Rating Use Accomplishments Guide

Very very early (like right now) you MUST spend some time and build your damn VP!  This is a labor of time, but also can greatly improve your skills during the process as you learn controls and FIFA intricacies.  There is a very big difference between a 70 and a 94 rated VP!  It’s not just for bragging rights, the skills you develop will help you during both Club play and Pro Ranked Matches.  Blame Your Any website has the BEST FIFA Accomplishments guide(here), it’s very detailed and is the very guide that I used while building my own VP.  The downside of building your VP is that it takes time, but you only have to do it once.  I’ve unlocked every defensive accomplishment, except 1,500 tackles which I probably will never unlock so I”m probably maxed out as a 94 CB which is still badass.
Fifa Defensive Player Build Your VP Rating vs Wigggy

This is how your build your VP. There are many methods. Read Blame Your Any’s Guide for offensive AND defensive players!

In my experience, I do believe it is (arguably) easier to get MOTM as an offensive player, but it is still very achievable as a defensive player.  I think it’s extra special when a defender is MOTM and it will often occur when a Clean-Sheet / shutout happens.  With a high VP(85+) and being MOTM as a CB/CDM during a Pro Ranked Match, that’s also a great way to get invited to a Club.  That’s how I started Club Play, and I learned a ton from my first club.  Typically when I get MOTM as a defender, I made 10-15 successful passes(ground and headers), gave up zero goals, and played my position correctly. It can be as simple as that when all goes well.

The Keys to being MOTM as a defender:

  1. Get Opportunities.  Some games your team may dominate so much that you just don’t get a chance to produce.  Just get the win, and play again.  I’ve probably played over 400 Fifa matches as a defender.
  2. When you get opportunities, PRODUCE !  Make successful passes, stay in position ( indicated by the markers on your feet ), and give up zero goals.  You also get punished sometimes if your own GK even touches the ball. These rules are the same for the offense.  In a 1-0 game it’s likely a defender or the goal scorer that will be MOTM.
  3. Stay in position.  When you have position markers on and you get 3 marks below your feet, you are out of position and your match rating will begin to drop immediately.  However, NEVER sacrifice a team win for your own VP rating.  ( Unless you are working on skills in Pro-Ranked Match, but even then you will anger your teammates )
  4. There are no “super tricks” to being defensive MOTM especially in club and PRM,  but 1 thing you can do is give yourself an increase in successful passes by calling for the ball from the CPU and quickly passing it back.  But make sure it’s safe to do so, and it may actually open up angles for your offense as well.
  5. Read the entire Fifa Defensive Players Bible parts 1-5 and ask questions.
One of the required defensive accomplishments is to get 15  Man of the Match as a defensive player.  You WILL successfully do this as your skills grow, but it did take me a while.  One of the best things about playing Pro Ranked Match as a defender is that CB is nearly always available.  But as a striker / CAM it’s super hard to get your position.  On PRM, this is YOUR TIME to improve, I guarantee you will get many opportunities to learn how to easily stop aggressive offenses.
FIFA Man of the Match Defense CDM

Man of the Match as CB or CDM You CAN DO IT

As a general rule, DO NOT TRY TO SCORE as a CB Defender.  Your focus should always be Clean Sheets, and making good(soft and safe) transition passes to the offense.  There are 2 exceptions to this rule: first is when you are brought up for Corner Kicks.  However, depending on the score sometimes it’s best to just run back to midfield for safety and to prevent hard counter-attacks.  The other scenario when it’s OK to move up from defense is when you’re trailing big or late and your team captain calls for “CB TO JOIN ATTACK”.   It is very dangerous to get greedy on Defense, against a good team you will lose and piss off your teammates.  If you want to score goals, then play midfield or striker.  As a CB it’s important that you get an erection over stopping goals, not scoring them.

CDM is my favorite position because it is OK to get just a taste of offense.  Early on in my VP career I only played CB but as I got better I needed to contribute more in the midfield and occasionally offense.  As a CDM there are more scoring opportunities, however I still consider this position 85% Defensive and 15% Offensive.  What’s cool about CDM is that you can create your own opportunities by intercepting passes just inside your opponent’s midfield dribbling to just outside the 18 and BLASTING a shot..  DO NOT engage the 18 bender or outside foot shots,  as a CDM you score goals from crosses, corners, AND POWER SHOTS from just outside the 18.  A power shot is super-sexy and will demoralize your opponent.  On occasion as a CDM it is perfectly acceptable to join your offense’s attack but the deeper you go the more at risk you make your team of a counter attack.  If your Club team is awesome offensively then only slide up 5% of the time, if they need your help and can’t score then I’m OK with joining attacks up to 20% of the time.   If you see a moronic CB joining the attack then be a team player and slide back to fill his position.  After the game tell him he’s screwing up the team’s vybe by playing out of position.  CDM should always be just in front of CBs.

  6. Fifa Demo / Full:  No Virtual Pro or Club, but yes online multiplayer but you have to control the team, not just your VP.
  7. Motorstorm RC:  Kind of a 2012 version of RC Pro Am, sponsored by Scion, this game is FREE and worth a download.
  8. Virtua Tennis 4: A popular, sexy title if you’re into Mobile Tennis.  I’d really prefer Hot Shots Tennis Vita version though :(
  9. Augmented Reality:  Table Soccer and Cliff Diving.  Use the provided AR cards and go cliff diving for points on your coffee table. Literally.  It’s worth the exercise at least once.
  10. AR #2: Table Top Tanks ( $1.99  but start with the free Table Soccer and Cliff Diving first )
  11. Check for previously purchased games :)  If you’ve purchased PSP games from the Playstation Store, make sure you scan your history and download those games too !

The Best PS Vita Review. The Good, The Bad. Is it Worth it ? Tue, 05 Jun 2012 03:46:47 +0000 PS Vita Review. The Good, The Bad. Is it Worth it

My Actual Vita sitting on the Box

*** Flickr:  My best 50 Pics of the Vita During Unbox with Accessories ***

I was curious of the Sony PS Vita since it was called the Next Generation Portable.  However,  I was dead set on not purchasing the device, until two forces pushed me over the edge.  First, a friend got the device and peer pressure was setting in, but more importantly, I had a big stack of about 15 old PS3 games.  I traded in my stack  at Gamestop and basically got a free Vita out of the deal with a nearly $300 credit.  I’m very happy owning the PS Vita, but I have mixed feelings when people ask: “Is the Vita worth it?, Should I buy it?“.    I’m not bragging about a trade-in stack bundle, my point is that had I not had such a large trade-in, I likely would not have bough the Vita at its current price point of $249.99 (WiFi Only).

An important consideration is that the Vita is NOT a competitor to the iPad or other Android Tablets.  In my opinion, a purchase of the Vita should be mostly about portable gaming.  Yes the Vita has some apps, like Netflix and a Twitter client(YouTube coming)  but its main purpose is for gaming.  I certainly love some games on my iPad and Android Transformer Prime, but playing games on the Vita is superior to tablets when it comes to today’s handheld gaming.

PS Vita Review. The Good, The Bad. Is it Worth it 32

Basic Folder Organization on Vita

As often is my stance at Booya Gadget, whether or not a PS Vita is worth it is really a personal decision with many factors.  As an owner, I can easily tell you that I really enjoy gaming on my Vita, but to help you make  your own decision, here are the good and bad of the Vita.  What’s most important is your opinion so let me lay the facts for you to decide upon.

  • Graphics:  Great !  You will like the graphics on the big titles like MLB 12 and Hot Shots Golf(My #1 all time golf game)
  • Sweet Games:  The games, although expensive and currently limited in volume, are certainly Badass.
  • Touchscreen typing  / game integration:  Touch screen is Great!  I hated typing on the PSP. It is No Longer a problem.  Plus you touch for many games too.
  • Cloud Saves: On cross play games, you save your game (easy) to the cloud.  Then fire up the game on the PS3 and Load From cloud.  Voila !
  • WiFi N:  Finally.. I hate WiFi B, I’m 1 device away from disabling WiFi G&B on my router ! ( improve router performance with N only)
  • Front / Rear cameras:  I use my phone as a camera, but on the Vita it enables Augmented Reality games and more.  But I’ll never use my PSP to take important Pictures / Videos. ( but you can! )
  • Screen Shot capability:  Screen Capture from a game, and Tweet it !  Or, copy to a PC using “Content Manager” and do what ever you want from game screen captures.
  • PSP Game compatibility:  If you bought games for your PSP, many will work on your Vita.  ( Like Valkyria Chronicles II, Tekken 6 in my case )
  • Twitter App + Screen shots:  Screen Cap during a game as you beat your friend, Tweet it in their face… Booya!
  • Custom Trophies for Vita Games:  Love trophies designed for Vita play !  Great for PS3 Trophy Snobs!
  • Party Chat –> BUT… Game volume screws it up !:  You can party chat during gameplay, but the friggin game volume is too loud and no options to change it ( yet)  this is good and bad ..

PSP Valkyria Chronicles II on my PS Vita Already Paid for

Check for your Old PSP purchases online !

  • BATTERY: GOD AWFUL BATTERY!  Vita has the worst battery life of any device I own.  AND….  It currently does NOT tell you when it’s low.  I had an Online game shut down, with no warning from my Vita. Arrgh !  The battery life blows chunks.
  • Wifi Connect disconnect:  I think the battery is so crappy, they can’t leave you online like a PS3.  connects, disconnects, connects disconnects, slow. annoying.
  • Incredibly slow game downloading:  Purchase a game online and wait forever. I recommend bundling downloads on your PS3 and transfer later.  All my game downloads took about 5-7 HOURS. YIKES !
  • WiFi MLB 12 Online Game had some chop and lag.  I have yet to successfully complete a full 9 inning game on MLB 12 online multiplayer.  But I did get 3 wins for my trouble.
  • Not many titles:  New system, lagging in sales due to tablets and smart phones.  So the full suite of games is not there yet.  But those that are available are great.
  • My Thumbs Hurt/Ergonomics?:  Prolonged game play may cause your friggin thumbs to get tendonitis!  OUCH, no joke, my thumbs hurt after an hour.
  • Expensive Games:   Although these games smoke tablet gaming, they are damn expensive !!  $30-$50 that ain’t no .99 Angry Birds.. Pricey
  • Limited Cross-Play/Cloud Saves:  Again, due to the newness, cloud saving is cool but you just can’t use it on many games.  (3 at time of article)
  • Limited Customization:  You may have a lot of apps and games, but organizing them on your “live Area” is limited.  You can’t organize much, no Folders.
  • Price is $250(Wifi Only Model, $300 for 3g),  BUT!!! You are basically  forced to purchase the expensive proprietary Sony Micro SD cards.  You might leave the store having spent $350-$400 !!!!
  • Limited Accessories:  Expensive(or cheap), and limited number of accessories still..  I just want a simple case.
  • Not enough owners:  New system, not enough online multiplayer opponents yet.  More owners = way better tournaments in Hot Shots Golf :)
  • Content Manager:  Want to transfer data, you must plugin… Yuck, I don’t expect that in 2012….  Should allow Wifi Data Transfer on Home Router. I hate plugging in.
  • Remote Play, just as tricky same results.
  • Propietary cables,  just give me USB / micro or mini.
  • No Video Out.
PS Vita Review. The Good, The Bad. Is it Worth it 02

Yikes! $60 for 16 Gb Sony Memory Card. Jerks!

  • Augmented Reality.. There are 2 Free AR games that are available. The Vita also comes with 6 AR cards(required)  They are cool, I recommend you try them. (diving first)  I was able to play a game “virtually” on my dog’s back.
  • Rear Touch panel.. Mixed feelings.  So far, the rear touch pad has been a big inconvenience, I don’t like it. You can use it games, but it’s just too easy to touch on accident. (makes you shoot in Fifa)
  • E3 :  Sony will be releasing at least some info about the Vita, hopefully they’re improvements !
My Dog and PS Vita Augmented Reality AR

Place an AR Card & Game on your Dog's Back Today

The PS Vita is a great, sexy little device.  While my “GOOD” list is nice, the “BAD” list is one of the biggest I’ve ever written.  Some of its features are behind on the times, but for my #1 purpose (games)  it is great.  However, I consider it a luxury item and it’s still too early to call it a success or a failure.  If you have the budget, you will like the device and games but if this is a big purchase for you financially, you might pass or at least wait for a price drop and more sweet games and features.  Hot Shots Golf is my main game, followed by MLB 12 The show, but Booya Co Founder TRJ is hooked on Fifa and Augmented Reality ( Cliff Diving )…

With a gun to my head, I’d pass on the Vita and spend my money on a new phone/tablet purchase.  If this device costed $200(like a Kindle Fire) or even $150  I would call it a must buy, for now, I’ll call it a “Very nice to have” gadget.  If it fits in your budget via Cash, Parents, or selling old tech, then Yes, the Vita is worth it.

Ask me any questions and we’ll try and answer for you:  Here on our site, or twitter or facebook.

How To Screen Capture with Galaxy Nexus (No Root, HSPA+,ICS) Thu, 31 May 2012 01:25:20 +0000 How To Screen Capture with Galaxy Nexus

My Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Congrats if you own the very nice Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich!  I purchased mine from the Google Play Store.  When it comes to screen capture on your Galaxy Nexus, it’s pretty easy on this device and does not require Rooting(XDA Link).

  • Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN AND POWER buttons simultaneously for about 1 second.
  • The phone will beep, and the screen will simulate a photo snapshot.  You will also see a message and icon in the notification bar.

  • The Pics are located in the SDCard/Pictures/Screenshots Folder.
  • You can browse the images using the “Gallery” app, from the top notification bar, or download my favorite free app ES File Explorer from the Google Play Store aka Android Market.
  • COOL BONUS:  On Galaxy Nexus, screen captured images are able to be auto-uploaded to Dropbox if you’d like, this is very very handy for my screenshot purposes.
  • The Auto Uploading of screen capture on the Nexus does not yet work with Google Plus/Picasa. ( at the time of this article )

How To Screen Capture with T-Mobile Galaxy S2 (No Root, SGH-T989) Wed, 30 May 2012 23:44:38 +0000 How To Screen Capture TMobile Galaxy S2 Pic

My T-Mobile White Galaxy S2

Congrats if you own the very nice T-Mobile Galaxy S2 Android !  It’s a great phone, but I don’t like their flavor of Ice Cream Sandwich.   When it comes to screen capture on your Galaxy S2, it’s pretty easy on this device and does not require Rooting(XDA Link).

  • Quickly Press and Release the HOME AND POWER buttons simultaneously.
  • The screen will blink and you will get a message indicating success: “Screen Captured. Saved as Image File
  • It’s a quirky key-combo because Power is a physical button while Home is a touch button.
  • You cannot Screen Capture while your device is plugged in via USB AND Connected as USB Storage.  ( It’s OK To plugin while screen capturing, but disable USB Storage Mode if you have it enabled. )

  • The Pics are sent to your phone’s base folder level  into the “ScreenCapture” Folder.
  • You can browse the images using the “Gallery” app or Use the built in “Files” App or download my favorite tool ES File Explorer from the Google Play Store aka Android Market.
  • BAD NEWS:  On this device, screen captured images are NOT able to be auto-uploaded to Dropbox or Google Plus/Picasa… So you’ll always have to transfer them as needed.  ( at least at the time of this article )

Review: Seidio Desktop Cradle Dock Kit for Apple iPhone 4(Great!) Tue, 29 May 2012 01:30:49 +0000 Seidio Desktop Cradle Kit for Apple iPhone 4

Seidio Desktop Cradle Kit for Apple iPhone 4

If you need a cradle / dock as a stand and charger for your Apple iPhone 4 / 4s I recommend you consider the Seidio Desktop dock / cradle (AmazonLink).  So far it’s one of my top iPhone Accessories, and its flexibility to be used with or without a case is a slick feature that adds some future proofing value to your beloved iPhone 4/4s.  I own it, I use it daily, and I recommend it. The current price on Amazon is ~$27

The dock comes with a small adapter plate that you can utilize depending on whether or not you have a case on your phone.  I do have a case, and I can confirm that it does fit, I’ve seen some reviews that some very super-thick cases ( like some Otterbox models) may not fit so please double check reviews on Amazon.  But my in my situation, my simple Cygnett Case fits wonderfully(adapter plate removed since I have a case).  If you do not use a case for your iPhone 4, then you would insert the provided adapter to ensure a nice snug fit for your docking setup.

Seidio Desktop Cradle Kit for Apple iPhone 4 Main Adapter Plate

Main Stand and Adapter Plate

The Seidio Desktop Cradle/Dock has some weight and a sturdy feel to it, so it serves as a nice solid base for your iPhone when on a hard surface.  When docked your iPhone 4/4s will stable and you can press buttons on the screen without fear of the unit tipping over.  I wouldn’t play a game on it when docked, but it’s great for watching a video, scrolling web pages, charging, and or serving as your nightstand / alarm clock next to your bed.  I’ve used some annoying smart phone stands that tip over at the slightest touch ( like this from Sinjimoru ).   This Seidio iPhone Dock is bottom-heavy and  able to withstand a “normal” touch required for most functions.

The connection on the back of the stand is MICRO USB, the other end is standard male USB that can plug directly into your PC/Mac or the USB to Power adapter provided in the box.  If enabled you can both sync and charge your phone.   Since most of us iPhone 4 owners (hopefully) use WiFi Sync at least for app updates, the charging only as a nightstand clock should suffice often.  But if you want to charge and manually sync big vids or pics to something like iPhoto consider other products (or an auto upload service like Google+)  If you WiFi sync pics to iTunes and not iPhoto then again, you’re good to go already.  ( I use iPhoto, and thus physically plugin to my Mac when I want to sync pics/vids from my iPhone )

A Quick $10 for Free. Google Wallet Success on my Android Galaxy Nexus Sun, 27 May 2012 02:35:19 +0000 google wallet PayPass Terminal Galaxy Nexus Android

PayPass Terminal Works with Google Wallet

“Make your phone your wallet”
The Google Wallet mobile app allows you to pay online and in brick-and-mortar stores that accept Google Wallet, you can pay by tapping your phone at the point of sale.  Currently it comes pre-loaded on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  You can pay with Google Wallet anywhere MasterCard PayPass is accepted

I recently picked up the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from Google Play to compare with my other Android the TMobile Galaxy S2One feature I had to try is the much hyped Google Wallet, which utilizes NFC ( near field communication) technology.  ( a secure chip in your phone )  Would I continually use Google Wallet ? Yes, but I do see it as a competitor to my beloved PayPal.  Regardless, the concept of paying with my phone is cool.  As a light germaphobe, I hope that at some point, many years in the future,  dirty filthy currency will become far less used.  I’d also like to be able to commonly bump my phone to exchange info or  pay a friend for lunch or stuff like that, but it will be a long time if ever, as we need widespread adoption and other methods may arise.

View more pics of my Google Wallet Review Project at Google Plus.

Setup was easy enough on the Wallet App using my Gmail account, and once complete I indeed had the $10 free pre-loaded on my Google Card “PayPass” card.  Interestingly, the web browser version is completely different than the app stores on my phone, this is kind of lame, but I assume it will be “fixed” in the future.  At my local gas station, I’ve forever seen that PayPass terminal but I’ve never been able to use it.  But with my new Galaxy Nexus, I bumped and paid courtesy of Google’s free $10 for trying the service.  Booya !

Google Wallet Galaxy Nexus Free $10

After Setup My $10 is Ready to Spend

The cashier had zero issues, he was ready for me to “pay with credit” by bumping my phone on the PayPass terminal.  I was scared I was going to have to explain like I did with my Vudu/Walmart Disc2Digital debacle.  But no, it made little difference to the cashier whether I was swiping cards or bumping phones.  This was refreshing.  Curious of my “bleeding edge tech adoption” I asked if I was the first to use the system, and sadly, I was NOT.  I was his second ever customer try pay with the Phone Bump NFC Google Wallet Method :(  Although my nerd-pride was hurt, I was happy to have such a successful test on Google’s dime.

  • Just setup the Wallet App on your phone
  •  Go to the store with a PayPass terminal, tell them “Pay with Credit”
  • Unlock your phone and press the back against the terminal.  ( i’m unlocking with my Face and Pin :) )
  • Enter your PIN if requested ( you may have to bump the device again )
  • If successful, you’ll get a new screen indicating successful payment and your teller will hand you a receipt to sign(since it’s credit).
    • If Not, the App will ask you to press your device to the terminal again. No sweat, I had to the first time. ( rookie lol )
Google Wallet Transaction History Android galaxy Nexus

Google Wallet Transaction History

Saving Money With Wallet!  A Bonus add-on to Google Wallet is that it offers discounts/coupons and offers to legit retail stores when you pay with your phone.  Just click on “OFFERS” in your App and see some nice discounts, stuff like 10%-15%  off etc..

Google Wallet Deals Offers

Some Nice Deals for Paying with Google Wallet. Worth a thought.

If you’re curious about availability, there is a great add-on app ( which I think should be built into wallet ) that finds PayPass terminals near your location.  It worked great, and I recommend you download this free app now ( if curious ), or after you get your Nexus or NFC enabled phone.  Here is the link to the PayPass Locator, on the Play Store.

Galaxy Nexus Free Mastercard PayPass Locator App

Free App Finds PayPass Terminals Near you

I don’t know if Wallet / NFC tech will thrive or if it’s dead already, but I thought it was pretty cool and a good experience.  As I continue to use Google Wallet, I will just pre-load money onto the default card.  If you have an NFC / Google Wallet enabled phone, I’d say go spend $10 on Google.  Now-a-days a phone is as commonly carried as a wallet / purse, it might as well serve as a payment method as well.  I like Google Wallet and services like this, I hope they succeed, I’ll test them out :)

Review: Best Android Transformer Prime Case (with Keyboard) by Poetic Sat, 26 May 2012 22:35:53 +0000 Poetic(TM) ASUS Transformer Prime TF201 Leather Keyboard Portfolio Stand Case Cover for TF201

Poetic Leather T Prime Case

I love my Asus Transformer Prime, and the keyboard docking station (~$116).  A good case is a must for me as well, so I was very happy to get, and highly recommend, the Poetic(TM) ASUS Transformer Prime TF201 Leather Keyboard Portfolio Stand Case Cover for TF201 (AMAZON PURCHASE LINK).

While it has 1 or 2 drawbacks, it’s one of the best cases I’ve ever reviewed, for my needs this case was perfect and the price is all the way down to $17.95 on Amazon.  This soft “leather’ish” case can be separated for “tablet-only” useage, but it’s best when used in tandem with the eee Pad docked to the keyboard.

By the way, the Mobile Keyboad Docking station sure is nice to have and it changes the way I use my tablet!  It’s a must have if it fits your budget.

  • Price now $17.95
  • Nice soft feel. Not sure if it’s “real leather”, but it sure feels nice
  • Provide padding and protection for your tablet and dock
  • Holes are in the right places, so you can access both cameras, flashes, and data/power ports respectively
  • Easy, Simple, and Fast setup and removal when necessary
  • If separated from the Keyboard Dock, the tablet only portion of the case doubles as a stand.

  • When closed up, this case adds significant bulk and thickness..
  • The Mobile Keyboard Dock accessory is nice to have, but an expensive add-on ( $116 )

Ford Sync Tips and Tricks: Business Search with your Voice. Sat, 26 May 2012 20:45:54 +0000 Ford Sync Tips and Tricks Business Search

Ford Sync Powered by Microsoft

The Ford Sync system is a wonderful head unit and navigation system for a vehicle.  It is a quite powerful system, and many of the features are easily performed simply by using your voice.  In this article I’m going to walk you through a cool capability, finding local businesses  using the “Business Search” commands.  I actually do use this functionality on occasion and it’s a lot faster and safer than pulling over on the road.  In my case my Sync system is in a 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.

Remember, to use the advance “Services” functionality, you MUST first register at  ( have your VIN Ready )

  3. SAY: “Renton Washington”
  4. SAY: “Cedar River Animal Hospital”
  5. SAY: “Directions”  ( sends address to your nav system )

  3. SAY: “Search Near Me”
  4. SAY: “The Keg Steakhouse”
  5. SAY: “ONE” for the first option it offers you(closest)
  6. SAY: “CONNECT ME” ( dials phone number from your car )

  3. SAY: “Search Near Me”
  4. SAY: “Gas Stations” ( searching by Type of Business )
  5. SAY: “ONE” for the first option it offers you(closest)
    • SAY: “Text me the info” ( send address to your phone via text)
    • SAY: “Driving Directions” ( sends address to your nav system )

  • “connect me” dials phone number.
  • “text me the info” Send you a txt message to your phone with Link & Phone to your location ( good for forwarding to friends )
  • It remembers your last search.. you’d say: “Last Search” if you need to remember the last search you did.
  • If you’re low on gas, the nav will auto populate nearest fuel stations on your screen.

This is easy and convienient, it has come in handy for me a handful of times already!

EA FIFA 12, How to Quickly Customize your Arena Music. Thu, 26 Apr 2012 17:12:51 +0000 If you play a ton of FIFA 12 you may get annoyed with the same song played over and over and over again while you’re in the arena.  EA has become pretty good about letting you customize music.   Assuming you already have some of your own music on your PS3 or XBox, it takes just a few minutes to customize and improve your game experience.  For me, that arena song about drives me crazy having played hundreds of games.  For this super-easy walkthrough I’m only adding music to the Arena & Menus of FIFA, I’d recommend you try this first it may be enough to satisfy you, you can add more customization later if you want.

Assumed step #1 is that already you have your own music on your PS3 or Xbox.  For the absolute BEST results I recommend that organize your own tracks into a playlist so you don’t play out your own favorites.

While I add every picture here and it may seem long, it’s not, it just takes a few minutes and I HIGHLY recommend customizing your EA Experience by adding your own beats.   You are rewarded with a Trophy/Achievement.

  1. Select Customise Fifa / My Music & Chants

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 1

    Step1: select customise FIFA

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 2

    Step 2: Choose CUSTOM MUSIC&CHANTS

  3. Select Edit Menu & Favourite Team Audio

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 3

Step 3: Select Edit Menu And Fav Tm Audio

  4. Select Arena & Menus under Game Event

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 4

Step 4: Arena & Menus A good place to try this out

  5. This is where you can select a single song from your console or a playlist(best) if you are setup with a custom playlist.  I chose a single Track for the purpose of this article.

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 5

Step 5 Decide on 1 track or a playlist

  6. Now you can see your own music, select the track(or playlist) that you’d like to play when generally in the arena, or even pre-game Pro Ranked Matches.

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 6

Step 6 pick your track or playlist

  7. The next option is to decide to apply your music selection to all events, or just the selected events. If you followed my pic, just select the single event so you can get a feel for where your custom FIFA music will be played, you can add more later.

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 7

Step 7: apply to EVERYTHING or just the Arena

  8. Earn yourself a Bronze Trophy “Sweet Music” as an extra bonus.

FIFA 12 Custom Music Step PS3 XBox 8

8: enjoy your trophy / achievement

  9. Once you’ve selected you track, it will take you back to the menu where you could apply your custom music to more events if desired.  I find the “Arena & Menus” good enough, but feel free to customize even more from here..

Skype now available on Windows Phone 7 Wed, 25 Apr 2012 06:03:19 +0000 Skype WP7 Login

Logging in to Skype on my HTC HD7

Good news for the WP7 owners ( or to-be owners ) out there, Microsoft has finally launched their Skype App.  You can download the free Skype app right now at this link…  I think this is great, and while this is the first release, I believe Microsoft will polish it up over time for all the current and future WP7 owners out there.

The #1 complaint I’ve seen so far is that the app does not use a background agent, and I agree this is bad.  Basically means, the only way to rock Skype(at the time of this article) is to have it actively open, Major Whammy YIKES!!

I’m not the world’s biggest Skype user, but it absolutely comes in clutch from time to time.  I use all the big 3 devices, Android, iPhone(iPad), and WP7, along with Mac and Windows so I am spoiled enough to the point that I expect apps like Skype to be available on whatever device I plan to use that day.

So, I’ve given you the link to the free app,  and here are some more screenshots I took on my own HTC HD7 while installing and prepping skype for my own useage.

What do YOU think about this news, and the app itself ?

What do you think about WP7?

I’ve owned and used one for over a year, and while I now am using the Samsung Galaxy S2 on TMobile, I have no beef with WP7.  I just enjoy switching up devices a lot.  It helps me write this blog :)
